What should you take out of a shed before removal?
Empty the shed before structural work starts. Set aside anything you want to keep, then identify containers and materials that need special handling.
Start with a keep and remove list
Tools, seasonal decorations, spare parts, and shelving often get mixed together. Put keep items outside the work area and mark built-in shelves that should be removed.
Identify problem materials
Do not leave fuel, solvents, pesticides, paint, batteries, or unidentified containers inside. San Joaquin County lists these among materials for its household hazardous waste program. Check the current program rules before transport. A shed removal estimate should not assume these can go into ordinary debris.
Make access visible
Photograph the interior after it is emptied, the entry door, and the gate between the shed and the street. These show what can be carried out and what may need to be dismantled in place.
